Lawlor welcomes over €1.1 million Sports Capital Funding to County Kildare
3rd December 2012 - Senator Anthony Lawlor
Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, Anthony Lawlor, warmly welcomes the recent announcement made by Sports Minister Michael Ring TD that €1.156 million has been allocated to 21 sporting clubs and organisations throughout County Kildare. Not only will this funding support sporting activities in the County but will also create local jobs through capital building projects.
“This year’s Sports Capital Programme, the first in four years, attracted the highest ever number of applicants with 2,170 applications submitted. The announcement by Minister Ring that €26 million has been allocated throughout the 26 counties in Ireland proves a commitment by this Government to promote and encourage participation in sports. This funding will be used to upgrade and improve club facilities, and for the purchase of equipment.
“Unfortunately due to the high volume of applications, inevitably many clubs will be disappointed with the announcement and it is regrettable that more funding could not be sourced. However for the 21 clubs who received funding in County Kildare, across a wide variety of sporting activities, this funding will be the lifeline they need to grow their clubs whilst creating jobs in the local community”.
