Lawlor Welcomes Newly Merged Kildare and Wicklow VEC Headquarters in Naas
5th October 2011 - Senator Anthony Lawlor
“I was delighted to learn today from Minister for Education and Skills Ruairí Quinn, T.D., that Naas is to become the headquarters for the newly merged Kildare and Wicklow VECs. This merger is as a result of the Government decision to reduce the number of VECs from 33 to 16 €³ said Kildare North TD, Anthony Lawlor.
On making the announcement of the new headquarters today, Minister Quinn outlined how a number of factors have been taken into account in designating the headquarter locations where VECs are being merged. This includes the ability to redeploy staff to different locations. The Minister continued to state that the new VEC configuration allied to changes in the structures for delivery of further education and training comprises an overall blueprint for change that will bring about an exciting and dynamic future for the sector with an enhanced role in delivering both further education and training.
“The decision to locate the new headquarters in Naas will give a great boost to the area and signals a recognition of the important administrative role which the town can provide” concluded Anthony Lawlor TD.
