Lawlor Welcomes Further Upgrade and Expansion of Leixlip Wastewater Treatment Plant
5th April 2012 - Senator Anthony Lawlor
Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, Anthony Lawlor, warmly welcomes the announcement today from Minister for Environment Phil Hogan that approval has been given to Kildare County Council to seek tenders for the upgrade and expansion of the wastewater treatment plant in Leixlip at an estimated cost of €22m.
“Currently this plant operates at a 80,000 population equivalent (p.e.) capacity. This new contract will expand to cater for up to 150,000 p.e. capacity and will facilitate predicted future increases in wastewater flows from the domestic, industrial and commercial population.
“In light of the recent findings from Census 2011 which found a 12% population increase in Kildare North, I am delighted that Minister Hogan has seen the need to progress the final expansion of the Lower Liffey Valley Sewerage Scheme which will be of immense value to Leixlip and the wider area. I am also continuing to press with the Minister the need to upgrade the Osberstown Treatment Plant.” concluded Anthony Lawlor TD.
