Statement from Minister Varadkar on the Garth Brooks Concerts

Speaking today Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Leo Varadkar said: This is a blow to fans and to visitors coming from abroad. The way this happened at the very last minute is clearly unsatisfactory from everyone’s point of view and highlights the need to review the major events licencing laws. Nonetheless residents have legitimate concerns about five concerts in a row which the GAA has conceded was a mistake.

Cork GAA confirm Páirc Uí Chaoimh is available to host Garth Brooks concerts – Murphy

Fine Gael Cork North Central TD, Dara Murphy, has said that he has been in touch with the GAA in Cork, who have confirmed that Páirc Uí Chaoimh is available to host the Garth Brooks concerts which have been cancelled in Dublin after Dublin City Council refused to grant licences for two out of the five planned gigs.

New National Tender for Seniors Alert Scheme to Allow for New Technologies

Phil Hogan, T.D., Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government today (3 April, 2014) announced improvements to the Seniors Alert Scheme. The improvements are designed to facilitate greater community support and improved security for the elderly and are scheduled to come into effect in 2015.

‘Right to Read’ campaign will support learning for people of all ages - Donohoe

Statement by the Minister for Children & Youth Affairs Update on Mother & Baby Home Commission of Investigation

Today (Tuesday), Charlie Flanagan TD, Minister for Children and Youth Affairs briefed Cabinet on the interim report of the Cross Departmental Review Committee. The Committee, comprised of senior officials from eight government departments and a number of State agencies, was asked to scope the issues relevant to a Commission of Investigation into Mother and Baby Homes and to report by the end of June.

Buttimer calls for legislative change to increase choice of wedding venues

Fine Gael Cork South Central TD, Jerry Buttimer, has called for changes to legislation to allow marriages and civil partnerships take place at a wider range of venues. Deputy Buttimer raised the restrictive interpretation of the Civil Registration Act 2004 as a topical issue in the Dáil.
