Kilcummin Sewerage Scheme a priority for Irish Water
2nd June 2014 - Aoife Carragher
Seanad Chief Whip and Fine Gael Senator for Kerry, Paul Coghlan, today (Thursday) welcomed the news that Kilcummin Sewerage Scheme has been included as a priority project in Irish Water’s Proposed Capital Investment Plan 2014-2016.
“I have contacted Irish Water and specifically asked them about Kilcummin Sewerage Scheme; I wanted assurance that Kilcrummin was high on their list of priorities and I asked for an outline of the order of works.
“I am pleased that in their response Irish Water has confirmed that Kilcrummin Sewerage Scheme has been prioritised and that part of the €1.77 billion allocated for the Proposed Capital Investment Plan 2014-2016 will go to funding this scheme and assisting the people of the area.
“ This news has been long awaited by the people of Kilcummin who have had to tolerate discharges that have severely impacted the local environment.
“Irish Water has assured me that it is their intention to deliver each project listed in the Capital Investment Plan, including Kilcummin, in the timeliest and most cost efficient manner. Each project will be subject to full legislative and regulatory requirements, including rigorous public procurement and planning processes which will determine the ultimate timing and cost of delivery.
“Irish Water will seek to deliver capital projects to the necessary quality standards. Kilcrummin Sewerage Scheme and the ongoing problems have been an issue for the people of the area for some time. I am very pleased that Irish Water has recognised the seriousness of the issues and I am hopeful that this will be dealt with as soon as possible.”
