John McGuinness’ provides more proof that a vote for Fianna Fáil could put Sinn Féin in government – English

5th December 2015 - Susan Moss

It is now clearer than ever that a vote for Fianna Fáil could put Sinn Féin into government, according to Minister Damien English TD. Minister English was speaking after Fianna Fáil TD, John McGuinness, made it clear on RTE’s Clare Byrne show this afternoon that he would be open to Fianna Fáil going into government with Sinn Féin.

“It’s very apparent from listening to John McGuinness, who is a senior Fianna Fáil politician, that his Party would happily go into coalition with Sinn Féin in order to get into power.

“Many Irish people are justifiably wary about the prospect of Sinn Féin being in government. These voters should be aware that by voting Fianna Fáil they could actually be putting Sinn Fein in government. There could be little doubt about this after listening to John McGuinness today.

“McGuinness has significant support from fellow Fianna Fáil TDs on this matter. The prospect of doing a deal with Sinn Féin has been openly touted by Deputy McGuinness’ party colleagues including Deputies Eamon O’Cúiv, Colm Keaveney and Bobby Aylward.

“On the same programme today people were given a reminder of why Sinn Féin is not fit to be in government when Sinn Fein election candidate, Louise O’Reilly flatly refused to say that the murder of Garda Jerry McCabe by the IRA was wrong.

“Fianna Fáil wrecked the economy the last time they were in government and, if re-instated alongside Sinn Féin, they could destroy our economic recovery,

We cannot go back to the same old Fianna Fáil who wrecked the economy, have learned nothing from the past and are still the high tax, high spend party. Or risk the fragile recovery with Sinn Fein, the high tax, anti-jobs party who would wreck the economy; think those earning €35,000 are high earners and would tax us all by stealth.

“A combination of the two parties would be disastrous for our country. People should know that a vote for Fianna Fáil in the forthcoming election could effectively put Sinn Féin into government.”
