Ireland to benefit from EU funding projects worth €319 million – Hayes
18th February 2015 - Aoife Carragher
Brian Hayes MEP for Dublin has today (Wednesday) welcomed the announcement of two major EU funding projects worth €319 million which will be spent on cross-border cooperation with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
“The European Commission has today signed off on these projects which will deliver much-needed funding into various areas where cross-border cooperation is vital, such as research and innovation, environmental conservation and climate change adaptation. The projects are part of the EU’s interregional programme which encourages communities to work together to address common challenges.
“Not only will the funding benefit various communities across the country but it will also lead to the creation of new jobs by better linking research organisations and businesses in the different countries. This is a great opportunity, particularly for SMEs and voluntary and community organisations who are involved in cross-border cooperation activities to apply for funding.
“I believe the European Commission has put a lot of work into examining the problems faced by the relevant communities, particularly regarding environmental issues faced by coastal areas, and I expect that thousands of people will see the benefit of these projects in the coming years.”
