Ireland reaffirms commitment to climate support for vulnerable countries at United Nations General Assembly event
Minister Colm Brophy says Ireland will work with other donors to respond to the needs of those most at risk of climate change
22nd September 2021 - Colm Brophy TD
The Minister for Overseas Development Aid and the Diaspora, Colm Brophy, T.D., today gave Ireland’s commitment to improving the quantity and quality of finance that helps developing countries to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
Minister Brophy, representing Ireland, led a UN General Assembly high-level side event to mark the launch of the Champions Group on Adaptation Finance, a group comprised of leaders from the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, the United Kingdom and Finland.
Minister Brophy said:
“Climate change is already affecting countries all over the world, but it does not do so equally. There are billions of people across the world who are acutely more vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and who need more support to overcome that vulnerability.
As a country with a strong track record in supporting climate action in vulnerable countries, particularly Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States, Ireland is reiterating its support for increased funding for climate adaptation, and working with other donor countries to respond to the needs of people most at risk of climate change.”
