Inclusion of City Centre Taskforce in programme for government a major boost for Cork – Buttimer

16th January 2025 - Jerry Buttimer TD

The new programme for government commitment to implement a Cork City Centre Taskforce will help rejuvenate Cork, a Fine Gael TD has said.

Deputy Jerry Buttimer said: “It’s fantastic to see the inclusion of a taskforce for Cork city in the programme for government. Cork has great potential, but we need the right plan and investment to see the city thrive.

“The taskforce would be similar to the Dublin City Centre Taskforce and would allow collaboration from a range of sectors. This is key to ensuring we create a future for Cork city that prioritises safety, investment, and a vibrant community.

“We need to consider the current economic and social needs in Cork city, to then present recommendations for the rejuvenation of the city.

“The programme for government also outlines that we will establish a new elective hospital, a surgical hub, and the expansion of trauma services in Cork. These services are vital people across the county attending for medical treatment in the city.

“I also welcome the inclusion of working towards the completion of the long-awaited Cork Events Centre. This will help enhance Cork’s cultural landscape and boost the city’s regeneration.

“It is essential that we see the taskforce implemented so that we can deliver the change that is needed to our city centre and continue to be proud to call Cork home.

“The people of Cork can be reassured from the programme for government that rejuvenating Cork is a priority for this new government,” concluded Deputy Buttimer.
