Hopkins welcomes funding for anti-bullying training for parents in Roscommon and Leitrim
1st September 2014 - Fine Gael Press Office
Fine Gael candidate for the Roscommon/South Leitrim bye-election, Cllr Maura Hopkins, has welcomed today’s funding allocation of €55,000 by Education Minister Jan O’Sullivan to support the delivery of anti-bullying training sessions for parents in 2014.
Among the sessions planned nationwide include one in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon on Thursday, October 9th and the other at The Bush Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon on Tuesday, October 14th.
“The Anti-Bullying Parent Training Programme is being run jointly by the National Parents Council Primary and the National Parents Council Post Primary to support the implementation of the Action Plan on Bullying which called for training and resources for parents and boards of management.
“As Minister O’Sullivan points out, parents need the tools and know-how to support their children in preventing bullying from happening and in dealing with it when it does arise.
“Today’s funding of €55,000 for this valuable training is on top of the €60,000 announced earlier this year and brings the 2014 allocation to a total of €115,000.
“I am pleased that this additional funding will ensure that a greater number of parents can avail of these courses.”
