Hayes calls on graduates to consider internships in the European Parliament
30th July 2014 - Aoife Carragher
Fine Gael MEP for Dublin, Brian Hayes has, today (Wednesday), called on Irish graduates to consider applying for internships in the European Parliament.
“Every year the European institutions offer many traineeships for graduates from EU Member States. These programmes are intended to enable trainees to supplement the knowledge they acquired during their studies and familiarise themselves with the activities of the European Union and, in particular, the European Parliament. There is also a specific programme aimed towards journalism graduates.
“These internships are awarded for a period of five months. The application process for the next program, running from 1st March until 31st July 2015, will open on 15th August and close on 15th October. I believe that valuable experience can be gained from a 5 month placement in the European Parliament. Apart from learning how the EU institutions work, there is great potential to improve your language skills.
“Applications for the programmes can be made online on the European Parliament website www.europarl.europa.eu. I encourage those that are interested in the next programme to apply on the 15th August as demand can be high across all EU Member States. This is a great opportunity for new graduates.”
