‘Greenlove’ for China from Charleville – Collins
6th November 2014 - Fine Gael Press Office
Fine Gael Cork North West TD, Aine Collins, has said that the launch of a new product in China called ‘Greenlove’ is great news for jobs in Charleville. The infant milk product, produced by Kerry Group in Charleville, is being launched for the Chinese market today (Thursday) in Hangzhou, as part of a Government-led trade mission to China.
“The launch in China today of the infant milk product ‘Greenlove’, is great news for jobs in Charleville. This product is made in the new state of the art Kerry plant on Kilmallock Road, and it is fantastic to see it being opened up to the vast Chinese market.
“We knew that the new Kerry plant would be good for Charleville, and the creation of 100 jobs there was a real boost for the area. Today’s product launch in China is additional good news for the sustainability and expansion of jobs there into the future. There are 1.3 billion people in China who are increasingly looking to foreign imports as a source of safe quality food for their children. This trade mission led by Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney is looking to capitalise on that market for Irish food exports.
“Trade missions such as these represent huge potential for Irish farmers and it is great to see a product made in Charleville capitalising on this. We can see clearly how dairy farmers in particular have benefited from such trade missions in the past. After the last trade mission to China three years ago, we went from selling €130 million worth of dairy products in 2011 to €270 million in 2013, an almost 100% increase in just two years. Ireland was well represented at a hugely significant dairy seminar in Beijing earlier this week. This allowed us to showcase top quality Irish food in the hopes that we will see more products, just like Charleville-made ‘Greenlove’ exported from Ireland into a potentially very lucrative Chinese market.”
