Global company Moss Vision to create 50 new jobs in Roscommon Town – Feighan
18th June 2015 - Daniel Rowan
Fine Gael TD for Roscommon/ South Leitrim, Frank Feighan, has warmly welcomed the news that Moss Vision, a market leader in the development of world-class ophthalmic products and services, is to set up an eye lense manufacturing facility in Roscommon Town, which will lead to the creation of 50 new jobs.
“I’m delighted that Moss Vision has chosen the IDA Business Park in the town as the location for its new facility.
“Moss Vision’s new Roscommon base will manufacture both intraocular lenses to help people enjoy improved vision, and hyaluronic acid-based viscoelastic for dermal fillers, which are used in eye surgery.
“The resulting boost of 50 jobs is a massive boost for Roscommon town and county and clear evidence that the Government’s jobs plan is now starting to work for this part of the country. The project has been strongly supported by the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation, Richard Bruton, and his Department through IDA Ireland.
“I had known for some time that these jobs were in the pipeline and IDA Ireland has delivered on its commitment to me that it would deliver on an investment in town by the middle of the year.
“We know that the unemployment rate is now below 10% nationally for the first time in six years. However, evidence of the recovery is clearly starting to take hold here in this region – and it didn’t just start this year. In 2014, three biopharma companies in South Roscommon, Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Alexion and Alkermes created a total of 250 jobs while Medical Devices company, Vistamed, based in Carrick-on-Shannon and Rooskey, also announced an expansion of 125 jobs.
“All of this investment, including the 50 new jobs which will come to Roscommon Town, is about boosting local economies, transforming people’s lives, and providing much needed spin-offs.
“And contrary to recent claims in some quarters, Roscommon and this region is not being ignored as the Government’s increased focus on job creation outside of the main urban centres is clearly reaping dividends.”
