2nd February 2013 - Brid Murphy
Fine Gael Waterford Deputy Paudie Coffey has said news of further investment by Genzyme in it facilities in Waterford is another vote of confidence in the Workforce that will retain and secure jobs in this High-Tech Biopharmaceutical plant. Genzyme has already invested some €400 million in its facilities in Waterford since 2001 and employs over 450 people.
“Genzyme is one of the leading manufacturers in the pharmaceutical field, with locations in over 40 countries and holds and its products are used by patients in over 90 countries Worldwide. This news is once again proof that Waterford and the South East Region are a fantastic place to invest.
“Waterford has the infrastructure, services and critical mass to sustain these types of businesses that have a hugely positive impact on the local economy. Over the course of the last 2 years we have seen companies like Merck, Sharpe and Dohme and Boston Scientific all invest in their facilities as well.
“Genzyme’s impact on Waterford can’t be underestimated, and this move as announced by Genzyme underpins its commitment to the City and the Region. I am pleased that this IDA supported business has made this decision which is a clear reflection on the management and staff who work in the company on a daily basis.
“The IDA must continue to try and secure further foreign direct investment in Waterford; I am aware that significant efforts are being to deliver this and IDA Site visits have increased significantly from 2011 and recently a planning application has been made by the IDA with Waterford County Council for the construction of significant high-tech office space in Waterford.
