Further funding allocated to pyrite remediation scheme will assist homeowners in Summerhill and Enfield
4th May 2014 - Aoife Carragher
Fine Gael TD for Meath West, Ray Butler, has today (Wednesday) welcomed the announcement of further funding for the pyrite remediation scheme by Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan TD.
“Homeowners in Summerhill and Enfield have been waiting a long time for a resolution to the pyrite problem. This is an issue that arose through no fault of their own and one this Government has been determined to tackle head on.
“Today’s announcement brings to €20 million the amount of funding available to be allocated by the Pyrite Resolution Board. Initially a fund of €10 million was available so it is very positive to see that this fund has been increased so significantly.
“Over half of the 1,000 homes estimated to be affected by pyrite have submitted completed applications or are in the process of doing so. Progress is being made but it is essential that we finish the job and find a resolution for all those who were affected by the pyrite heave.
“Pyrite has been an issue for a long time now. I understand the frustration the people of Summerhill and Enfield have felt in finding a resolution. I am delighted that the PRB is now well funded into 2015 as we move towards reaching a conclusion to this longstanding problem.”
