Funds approved for Rush waste water facility
4th June 2013 - Alan Farrell TD
Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal Alan Farrell has confirmed that over €2.7 million has been approved by the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government Phil Hogan to progress vital works on the waste water sewage scheme in Rush.
“This is great news for Rush as the existing network does not comply with EU standards and residents were particularly concerned when Rush Harbour bathing water failed to meet Environment Protection Agency Standards.
“Following this report I tabled a Parliamentary Question to the Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan T.D. in order to highlight the urgent need for Fingal County Council to receive funding for the implementation of the second phase of works that would link Rush’s sewer network to the new Portrane treatment plant. As recently as 3 weeks ago I received photos of untreated sewerage in Rush Harbour which in this day and age is completely unacceptable.
“As a result of my Parliamentary Question I received confirmation this week from Minister Hogan that funding of over €2.7 million has been approved to carry out this work and Fingal County Council can now proceed with the next phase of the Donabate/Portrane/Rush/Lusk Sewerage Scheme. This is the second part of a four phased approach to providing treatment for waste water arising in the Rush catchment that will link the Rush sewer network into the new Portrane wastewater plant.
“On completion, this vital infrastructure will significantly improve current restrictions on development in the area caused by inadequate drainage infrastructure, and will ensure compliance of Rush discharge with EU standards.
“Fingal County Council can now progress the next phase of the Portrane/Donabate/Lusk/Rush Sewerage Scheme due to the approval of this funding and I will continue to engage with council officials in order to ensure that construction of this contract can commence at the earliest possible date.”
