Funding for Kildare Transport Projects Welcomed

“I was delighted to learn that as part of the recently announced Jobs Initiative, €5m of the total funds of €15m for smarter travel and public transport initiatives, has been allocated to schemes in the Greater Dublin Area (GDA).” said Kildare North TD Anthony Lawlor.

This funding will cover the GDA of Dublin City Council, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, South Dublin County Council, Fingal County Council, Kildare County Council, Meath County Council and Wicklow County Council. The types of works being funded include bus corridor road improvements, pedestrian crossings, cycle routes, footpaths, and pedestrianisation projects.

Kildare County Council id being allocated a total of €950,000 for three particular projects under the remit of this scheme:

1. €500,000 Rural Schools €“ Pedestrian Links:

Safety improvements for pedestrians accessing rural schools in the Kildare County Council Administrative Area

2. €250,000 Kilcock Rd, Maynooth €“ Cycle Manual Demonstration Project:

Provision of cycling facilities at this location which will also act as a national pilot project for design of new cycling facilities

3. €200,000 Kilcullen Road Junction Improvements:

Signalising of Kilcullen Road junction known as “Swan” in Naas providing significant safety and utility improvements for pedestrians, cyclists and other road users

“I believe that these projects will substantially benefit residents in all the areas concerned both from a safety point of view and ease of commute for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians alike. This announcement is proof of the government’s commitment to continue creating an environment for creating jobs” concluded Anthony Lawlor TD.
