Five new classrooms for children with special needs for Kildare North
22nd August 2012 - Senator Anthony Lawlor
Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, Anthony Lawlor, warmly welcomes today’s (Wednesday) announcement by the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) that 5 new classrooms for children with special needs will be opened this September throughout Kildare North. The primary and secondary schools granted these new classrooms are €“ Kilcock BNS; Scoil an Linbh Iosa, Prosperous; Scoil na Mainistreach, Celbridge; Scoil Bhride, Naas; and St. Farnans VEC, Prosperous.
“These special classes provide excellent teaching support to children with significant needs who cannot be educated in a mainstream class setting. Intensive teaching is undertaken between teacher and students as the classes have lower pupil-teacher ratios than mainstream classes, ranging from one teacher for six pupils to one teacher for eleven pupils.
“I am delighted that the needs of the children in these local areas have been identified by the NCSE. In particular the inclusion of St. Farnan’s VEC indicates a commitment to continue supporting children with special needs throughout both primary and second level education. I am grateful that the Government continues to prioritise and invest in assisting children with special needs.”
