Finglas Garda Station Evacuation shows the real dangers faced by our Gardaí and army – Rock

24th October 2017 - Noel Rock TD

The real and present dangers faced by An Garda Síochána and our Defence Forces were brought into sharp focus again today following an incident in Finglas Garda Station a Fine Gael TD has said.

Fine Gael TD for Dublin North West, Noel Rock was speaking following the emergency evacuation which has taken place at Finglas Garda Station after a member of the public walked into the station with a suspicious device they found.

Deputy Rock said: “I have been advised that a member of the public walked into the Garda Station in Finglas with a suspicious device they found on the road. The Gardaí alerted the Defence Forces EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) unit that the device may well be a pipe bomb or another improvised explosive device.

“Incidents such as this show the real and present danger that Gardaí and the army are facing every day. I understand the army are down on the scene now and hopefully everybody emerges safe and unharmed.

“It’s important that members of the public know that this isn’t the safest way to handle this sort of incident.

“If you find a device you believe to be explosive, that you contact the Gardaí in the first instance,” said the Fine Gael TD.
