Fingal would be ideal home for new elective-only hospital to be based in Dublin – Farrell
16th February 2018 - Alan Farrell TD
Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal, Alan Farrell has called for the new elective-only hospital for Dublin to be located in Fingal, following the inclusion of this facility in the Government’s National Development Plan.
Deputy Farrell said: “With the fastest-growing population in the country, and with Fingal’s proximity to significant transport infrastructure, I believe our community would be the ideal home for a new medical facility.
“A medical campus to serve such a facility would bolster the services currently in Fingal, including Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown. Furthermore, locating this new hospital in Fingal who ensure it would be easily accessible to people travelling from other parts of the country for elective procedures.
“The M50 and N2 border my own constituency, the M1 runs straight through Dublin Fingal, the M3 travels through Fingal, and the development of Metro North to Swords, and DART extension to service all stations between Malahide and Drogheda will all provide significant transport connections to Fingal.
“In addition to this, developing this new medical facility in Fingal would also allow for it to be built on a site which would have adequate space for any future growth that may be required as our population growth, both in North County Dublin, and across our country as a whole.
“It is my opinion that the level of transport infrastructure both existing and planned will provide the necessary connections between Dublin city, and our surrounding counties to make Fingal an ideal home for this elective-only hospital.
“I also believe, the development of this Facility in Fingal would go a long way to catering for the future population growth of North County Dublin and the needs of communities throughout Fingal into the future.
“I hope that the Government and all stakeholders who will be involved in the planning and development of this new medical facility will give serious consideration to locating it in Fingal,” Deputy Farrell said.
