Fine Gael’s team in Europe secures key positions – Murphy
2nd July 2014 - Sarah Meade
Fine Gael Cork North Central TD and Chair of the Party’s Internal European Affair Committee, Dara Murphy, has today (Wednesday) said that Fine Gael’s team of MEPs has secured a number of key positions on European Parliament Committees, ensuring they will have an influential role in the Parliament.
“During the recent European Elections, Fine Gael pledged to send serious, experienced and committed politicians to the European Parliament to ensure that Ireland’s interests are well represented across a range of policy areas. It is fitting, therefore, that our four MEPs have secured positions on influential European Parliament Committees.
“I have no doubt that Brian Hayes, with his extensive experience representing Ireland at European level in his previous role as Minister of State at the Department of Finance, will play a pivotal role on the influential Economic and European Affairs Committee.
“Our other MEPs have also secured key positions on important committees; Mairead McGuinness has full membership of the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee, Sean Kelly will sit on the Industry and Energy Committee and Deirdre Clune has a place on the Transport and Tourism Committee.
“All four MEPs have also secured substitute places on other important Committees.
“Fine Gael’s MEPs will now be in a prime position to drive the growth agenda in the EU and will play a key role in shaping legislation that has a real impact on all of our lives.”
