Fine Gael Cllr. Mary Kerr-Conlon expresses gratitude to people of Monaghan upon retirement

Fine Gael Councillor for Carrickmacross-Castleblaney Municipal District on Monaghan County Council, Mary Kerr-Conlon has announced her retirement from public life. Cllr. Mary Kerr-Conlon will step down at the conclusion of today’s (Monday) monthly meeting of Monaghan County Council after 25 years of public service.

First elected to Monaghan County Council in the 2019 Local Elections, she had previously served on Carrickmacross Town Council for 22 years from 1992 to 2014.

Cllr. Kerr-Conlon said: “I wish to announce my retirement from Monaghan County Council at the end of today’s monthly meeting. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment working for and on behalf of the people of Monaghan and particularly the Carrickmacross-Castleblaney Municipal District. Without the support of the people of Carrickmacross, Inniskeen, Magheracloone, Donaghmoyne, Killanny and surrounding areas, I would not have been able to carry out my work for these brilliant communities.

“It was an honour to work closely with the Fine Gael Oireachtas team in Cavan-Monaghan, namely Minister Heather Humphreys and Senator Joe O’Reilly. I wish to especially thank my colleague in the Carrickmacross-Castleblaney Municipal District, Cllr. Aidan Campbell, as well as my colleagues past and present on Monaghan County Council and Carrickmacross Town Council.

“I also wish to thank the countless officials in Monaghan County Council and Carrickmacross Town Council who assisted me over the years in bringing about change to people’s lives. The outdoor and administrative staff on Carrickmacross Town Council and later the Carrickmacross-Castleblaney Municipal District, were true public servants and always a pleasure to deal with.

“Today is about expressing my gratitude and thanking those who supported me from my first election and throughout my 25 years of public service. I am very thankful to the Fine Gael Carrickmacross Branch for their unwavering support. I am proud to have worked on many projects which had a positive impact on the local community in Carrickmacross. Finally, I wish to thank my husband, Peter Snr, as well as sons Peter and James.”

Commenting on Cllr. Mary Kerr-Conlon’s retirement, the Leader of Fine Gael, Leo Varadkar TD, commented: “I know Mary put her heart and soul into representing the people of Carrickmacross and worked tirelessly on behalf of the community she represented for 25 years on the Council. It is an incredible achievement in public service and testament to the high regard in which she is held by the local community. I wish both Mary and her family every happiness in her well-earned retirement and to thank Mary for her service to Fine Gael from when she first joined the party over 45 years ago.”
