Fine Gael backing business with Cork workshop – Clune

24th March 2023 - Deirdre Clune MEP

Fine Gael is continuing to prioritise business and enterprise and will host a workshop event in Cork next week, which will focus on how Government can continue to assist businesses to prosper around the country.

The event will be hosted by MEP Deirdre Clune, who represents Ireland South in the European Parliament. She will be joined by Fine Gael Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Simon Coveney and Minister of State Neale Richmond.

“The event will be an opportunity for business owners, young entrepreneurs and interested parties to engage, discuss and debate the current business supports in place at a national and European level.” Deirdre Clune said.

“It is especially important for us to engage with businesses now, as we tackle the cost-of-living crisis and ensure that the policies and supports in place are accessible and sufficient to safeguard the wellbeing of businesses around the country.”

“The Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) sector is the backbone of the Irish economy. Under Fine Gael, the SME sector has continued to grow with now over 270,000 active SMEs in Ireland employing well over 1 million people.”

“Last month more measures were announced to bring certainty to businesses dealing with the cost-of-living crisis. “

“The Temporary Business Energy Support Scheme (TBESS) threshold was broadened which meant more businesses would be eligible and it was also extended until May. TBESS was introduced by Fine Gael in Government to counteract and relieve businesses from the increased energy costs over the winter months.

“The 9% reduced VAT rate for the hospitality sector was also extended for a further six months.” Deirdre Clune said.

“We know businesses value on-the-ground engagement, and this is why on Friday 31st March we are organising a workshop event in my hometown of Cork. Those who attend will be able to speak directly to the Ministers and give their feedback on their experiences with accessing and availing of Government supports.

“I am looking forward to welcoming participants and Ministers to this event in Rochestown Park Hotel in Cork on Friday 31st March.”
