FF Director of Elections has ruled them out of Government – Minister Coffey

21st November 2015 - Senator Paudie Coffey

Fine Gael Waterford Minister Paudie Coffey has said comments made by Fianna Fail’s Director of Elections means that they have now ruled themselves out of the next government.  Minister Coffey said that Fine Gael wants to be returned to government so that the Universal Social Charge is abolished and that we return Ireland to Full-Employment by 2018.

“It is now clear that Fianna Fail and Sinn Fein have absolutely no interest in entering government early next year.  This can’t come as a surprise given the lack of policies, alternatives and most importantly any credibility when it comes to running the country’s finances.

“Fianna Fail managed to turn one of the most prosperous times in our country’s history into its deepest recession.  Sinn Fein wanted to follow the example of Syriza in Greece that led that country into a 3rd Bailout and into default with the IMF.

“Minister Coffey said; “Fine Gael and Labour in  government have managed to turn the worst recession in the history of the State to Ireland becoming the fastest growing economy in Europe; creating more than 140,000 jobs and moved the unemployment rate below 9% for the first time in 7 years.

“It is no wonder that Fianna Fail and Sinn Fein don’t want to take the serious responsibility that comes with government.  To elect parties that don’t want to govern is a risky move and is one that could have very serious consequences for Irish Families and Communities the length and breadth of the this island.”
