Feighan welcomes start of major bowel cancer screening programme at Roscommon Hospital
26th February 2014 - Sarah Meade
Fine Gael TD for Roscommon/South Leitrim, Frank Feighan, has warmly welcomed the news that a bowel cancer screening programme has commenced at Roscommon Hospital.
“Last year, Roscommon Hospital was selected as a site for colorectal screening under the National Cancer Control Programme and I’m now delighted that this programme has now got underway.
“I’m also glad to note that an investment of up to €300,000 in specialist equipment has been made to support this programme which will offer free bowel screening to men and women aged 60 to 69 years.
“As part of these plans, a new colorectal clinical nurse specialist took up her post before Christmas to help co-ordinate the programme and the new state-of-the-art endoscopy suite which, once complete, will also be utilised for screening.
“Roscommon Hospital’s selection for this major national cancer screening programme once again underlines the significant expansion programme taking place at the hospital.”
