Feighan welcomes €700,000 investment in Roscommon Hospital infrastructure
26th August 2013 - Frank Feighan, TD
Fine Gael TD for Roscommon/South Leitrim, Frank Feighan, has welcomed an investment of almost €700,000 to upgrade Roscommon County Hospital’s electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
“This investment is part of major enabling works for the new Endoscopy Unit, which recently got the planning go-ahead. The works will involve an upgrade of the boiler, which operates the hospital’s heating system, and an upgrade of the building management system, which monitors all the mechanical systems at the hospital.
“I understand that the appointed contractor for the mechanical works had a first site meeting last week and this part of the upgrade will commence very shortly.
“The enabling works will also involve a complete upgrade of the electrical back-up system for the hospital. This will incorporate the installation of a brand new generator and I understand the awarding of the contract for the electrical works is pending.
“This latest investment is great news for the hospital as some of the mechanical infrastructure is up to 15 years old. Combined with the endoscopy project and proposals to develop both Rehabilitation and Palliative Care Centres, along with a range of development services currently being rolled out, this infrastructural upgrade is another significant vote of confidence for the long-term future of Roscommon Hospital.
“Being a Government TD has allowed me to work with all stakeholders at national and local level to ensure the best services and infrastructure are put in place at Roscommon Hospital and I am delighted to see this work being undertaken.”
