Feighan welcomes €60,000 in key funding to kickstart Ballyleague riverbank project

Fine Gael TD for Roscommon/South Leitrim, Frank Feighan, has warmly welcomed an allocation of €60,000 in Inland Fisheries funding to the Ballyleague riverbank development, which now ensures phase one of the project is fully financed and can proceed as planned.

“I’m delighted to have been able to make representations on behalf of the Ballyleague Village Renewal committee to ensure the remaining finance needed for this €270,000 project has been secured, courtesy of Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) funding.

“Following a successful application to IFI, this €60,000 allocation, approved yesterday (Tuesday) now means that this exciting riverbank project can get underway in Ballyleague and when finished, it will certainly become a top-class tourist landmark for the local community and visitors alike.

“The phase one works includes a new quay wall and perimeter fence, a new pathway and stands for disabled anglers. I understand that the appointed contractors are hoping to start work next week on this phase one programme, which is scheduled to take four months. Phase 2 of the development is set to include a range of other amenities such as a playground and outside gym.

“Following this successful completion of funding for phase one, I would like to sincerely thank the IFI which clearly recognised the huge work being invested in this project by the local committee in Ballyleague. Indeed, speaking to committee members, I know they are extremely grateful for this key financial support.

“I also know that when this development is fully complete, it will become a significant tourism offering for Ballyleague in a setting which already boasts a fantastic marina, a tennis court and picnic areas.”
