Feighan welcomes €400,000 in funding to upgrade two Roscommon nursing homes
10th April 2014 - Sarah Meade
Fine Gael Roscommon/South Leitrim TD, Frank Feighan, has today (Thursday) warmly welcomed a total allocation of €400,000 in HSE funding for the upgrade of two nursing homes in Co. Roscommon.
“The Plunkett Nursing Home in Boyle is to receive €300,000 while Áras Mháthair Phóil in Castlerea is to be allocated €100,000. I am delighted that the HSE has approved this funding under the Minor Capital Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) Compliance Works 2014.
“The two nursing homes have provided quality care to elderly people for many years and these funding allocations will now allow both to complete works to ensure they are fully compliant with new HIQA standards to be introduced in 2015.
“I am glad to have been able to assist and work on behalf of the two nursing homes in securing this hugely important funding. It will enable them to not only keep up, but keep ahead, of the new HIQA regulations.
“Meanwhile, the compliance works required for the Sacred Heart Home in Roscommon town is of a more major nature than the other two nursing homes and therefore does not fall under the Minor Capital HIQA scheme.
“However, the Sacred Heart Home is among a group of other nursing homes across the country which is currently part of a high level study being carried out by the HSE in order to examine the various requirements for upgrade work, such as funding and costings.
“Additionally, the HSE West has informed me this week that it is fully supportive in every way to ensure that the Sacred Heart Home will become compliant when the new HIQA standards come into effect next year.
“As is the case with the Plunkett Nursing Home and Áras Mháthair Phóil, I know that the management and staff at the Sacred Heart Home continuously strive to anticipate and adapt to change for the advantage of its residents. Accordingly, I will do everything I can to help secure the funding for the necessary upgrades to take place.”
