29th June 2012 - Andrew Doyle TD

Welcoming the 2011 Annual Report from Enterprise Ireland published this week which announces record exports of €15.2bn, Wicklow TD Andrew Doyle has said that this is an outstanding achievement in the current economic context and has recognised the contribution of our indigenous companies to these figures.
Enterprise Ireland client companies export sales in totalling €15.2bn have exceeded the pre-recession, record levels of 2008. New export sales showing the highest ever annual export gains by Enterprise Ireland client companies.
By focussing its resources and valuing entrepreneurship, Enterprise Ireland has targeted the industry sectors and geographic markets that could make the biggest impact in terms of exports and jobs.
Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Doyle has praised the work of Enterprise Ireland in working closely with companies in the food and beverage sector; one of Ireland’s key employers and a significant contributor to Irish exports; to develop strategies which stimulate investment and innovation and which drive competitiveness and lean agendas in the sector.
“The Irish agri-food industry has natural competitive advantages. We have a world class product and we have shown that we can compete on a global level. When you consider that exports in the food sector & drinks sector are valued at almost €9bn, to 170 countries worldwide, the importance of the sector to our economy is obvious.
“Our determination in Government is to recognise these industries, leverage our advantages and build on these record achievements by targeting further export growth in 2012.
