Eamonn Coghlan to run for Fine Gael in Dublin West Bye-Election

Eamonn Coghlan will represent Fine Gael in the Dublin West Bye-Election.  He was selected by party members at a convention tonight (Tuesday) in the Castleknock Hotel and Country Club.  An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny TD, was in attendance.

Speaking at the event, Senator Coghlan said:  “I am truly honoured to have been chosen by my fellow Fine Gael members tonight.  I am hugely encouraged by the trust they have placed in me.

“Having come from a humble background, I was fortunate to have been mentored from a young age and steered in the right direction.  After a successful sporting career, I worked in the United States of America, where I learned the value of working hard, acting big and believing big.

“Throughout my career I have been goal-driven and motivated by challenges.  Since becoming a Senator in 2011, I have learned about how our political system works and have been formulating ideas about how I can deliver more for the people I live alongside.  Having lived and raised my family in Dublin West for over 20 years, I am firmly rooted here.

“My agenda is focused on Jobs, Stability, Growth, Education, Sport and Youth Affairs.  Politics has shown me a different way to achieve something new and has renewed my energy and motivation to lead others.  Together we are greater.”

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD said:     “I appointed Senator Eamonn Coughlan to Seanad Éireann in 2011 because I recognised that he has all the qualities we want in our public representatives.     An Olympian , World and European Athletics Champion, Eamonn has been an ambassador for our country for decades.     His discipline, vision and stamina are unrivalled, as is his commitment to Dublin West.”
