€318,000 funding for all-weather sports facility is a huge boost to Manorhamilton – Comiskey

26th August 2013 - Senator Michael Comiskey

Fine Gael Sligo/Leitrim Senator, Michael Comiskey, has today (Monday) welcomed the news that Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan TD, has given Leitrim Development Company approval to allocate funding of €318,130 to Manorhamilton Community Recreation & Sports Ltd, for the development of a multi-purpose play field at Boggaun, Manorhamilton.

This project will consist of an all-weather playing field, together with car-parking spaces. It will ensure the provision of outdoor facilities on a year round basis for all types of recreation and sports. The funding has been provided under the Village Renewal and Development measure of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.

“I am delighted that the project has received the green light from Minister Hogan. I have been liaising with the Minister and the Leitrim Development Company on the project for some time. This is a major boost to the community in Manorhamilton who will now have the use of excellent all weather sporting facilities.

“Investing in projects such as these are vital in maintaining vibrant rural communities and I have no doubt that the facility will be of huge benefit to local clubs and societies.

“I would like to congratulate all the members of the Leitrim Development Company, whose continued commitment to improving recreational and village infrastructure to enhance the quality of life for rural communities has been recognised with the number of projects sanctioned in Leitrim over the past few months.

“The project will now go back to the Board of Leitrim Development Company for final approval. As the funding must be drawn down in full by the 30th September 2014 I expect the project to progress and be completed without delay.”
