€2.8 Million Promised for Kerdiffstown

9th March 2012 - Senator Anthony Lawlor

Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, Anthony Lawlor TD, welcomes the announcement made by Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Mr. Phil Hogan, that €2.8 million will be allocated from the Environment Fund to support the remediation programme of the landfill site at Kerdiffstown.

“I recently submitted a Parliamentary Question to Minister Phil Hogan (PQ Ref No. 13094/12, 8th March 2012) inquiring as to whether funding would be continued for the remediation of the landfill site and the future plans for the project. I’m delighted that the Minister has promised a further €2.8 million in funding from the Environment Fund for the Kerdiffstown landfill, as well as a detailed investigation and a new design for the remediation of the site.”

Efforts to clean up the landfill site have been ongoing since January of 2011, and the remediation of the site is currently under the control of the Environmental Protection Agency. Minister Hogan has stated that while it is not possible at this time to predict the exact amount of funding that will be needed for the Kerdiffstown landfill site in the future, €2.8 million will be made available immediately to support these efforts in 2012.

“I welcome the Minister’s acknowledgment of the current issue at Kerdiffstown, and I am appreciative of his efforts to do everything in his power to help. I am confident that with this new funding, we will be able to take a crucial step toward complete remediation of the site” concluded Anthony Lawlor TD.
