€10 million Capital Investment for Waterford City; All systems Go – Minister Coffey
3rd November 2015 - Senator Paudie Coffey
Fine Gael Waterford Minister Paudie Coffey has said that a €10 million Capital Investment is now ready to go. The Capital Investment will see the transformation of the Apple Market area of Waterford City into a real hub for pedestrians which will help to increase footfall in the heart of the City Centre.
“I can confirm that €4 million of the funding has been approved by the European Regional Development Fund which is administered by my Department. It is a scheme that Waterford has benefited from in the past and I am delighted to have been able to secure this capital investment for Waterford City.
“I want to commend Waterford City and County Council who have worked diligently on this proposal and all planning has now been approved by the Council. This now means that works can begin on this project imminently and the City will now have a better retail, café, bar and restaurant offering for people visiting the City Centre.
“Now that this project is due to begin, we must focus on future developments in the City. That is why I am committed to the regeneration of the North Quays in Waterford City and it is why I fought so hard to get this project in the Government’s Capital Plan 2016-2021. I am continuing to work with officials in my Department and in the Council to move this regeneration project forward which has the potential to be a game- changer for Our City.”
