€1.3 million allocated to Kildare County Council for regional and local roads
1st June 2013 - Senator Anthony Lawlor
11th June 2013
Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, Anthony Lawlor, welcomes the announcement today (Tuesday) by Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Leo Varadkar, that €1.35 million has been allocated to Kildare County Council. This is part of an additional €50 million which has been approved for regional and local roads expenditure in 2013.
“Individual local authorities have responsibility for the upkeep and maintenance of roads but this extra funding is directed mainly at surface restoration works. Yet, if the Council believes that there is a safety scheme elsewhere which requires urgent action, than the Local Authority can apply to the Department of Transport to use the funds for that purpose. This funding must be spent in 2013 which means that residents in County Kildare should see immediate action.
“I am delighted that the Department have made a number of significant announcements in recent weeks relating to our road network, which includes the upgrading of the N7 and the Red Cow Roundabout”.
