Dundrum to have Access to Eircom High Speed Broadband from Monday May 20th
20th May 2013 - Olivia Mitchell TD
Olivia Mitchell TD Dublin South welcomed the arrival of Eircom’s early roll out of high speed broadband to the Dundrum area.
“This service is aimed primarily at domestic users and will ensure speeds of between six and ten times greater than Eircom can currently provide.
“The fibre network which has been installed over the last number of years runs to local cabinets, with the remaining distance to individual homes covered by the traditional copper wire. The opportunity was taken during the many major roadworks carried out over the celtic tiger years to run underground fibre optic cable. For instance the Dundrum bypass and the Sandyford Road upgrades provided such opportunities and now residents from this week can benefit from that investment. Those not included in the early rollout will get access during 2014.
“Use of the cable will be shared with other providers, including Vodafone and all providers intend to offer packages which are facilitated by the improved band width and speed. For example Eircom intend offering TV, mobile, fixed phone line and broadband from later in the year.
“In the coming days Eircom users will be contacted to inform them that they can now register for the new high speed broadband, which will involve no extra cost for users”.
