Dundalk is Ireland’s best railway station – Fitzpatrick

2nd November 2015 - Peter Fitzpatrick TD

“Dundalk’s Clarke Station has been named Overall Best Train Station in Ireland at the annual Iarnród Éireann Best Station Awards”, says Fine Gael TD for Louth, Peter Fitzpatrick. The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohoe, today (Monday), presented the award for Iarnród Éireann Best Station to Dundalk.
“Dundalk is central to the local economy in Co. Louth; it provides an easy link for people to come to the town for work or for study, and it facilitates those who commute but still want to live in Dundalk.
“Voting was conducted through an online poll and voting at stations with almost 4,000 people taking part. Customers rated stations based on customer information, station appearance and staff helpfulness.
“The busy commuter and Belfast Enterprise station serves over a thousand customers every day and the staff were commended for their customer service and pride in their station. The station is also home to a beautiful railway museum that is enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.
“Public transport demand is picking up significantly, due to the number of people going back to work, and this is expected to continue as the economy continues to recover.  This puts stations like Dundalk and those working in them under increased pressure to perform at a high standard and it appears, Dundalk is leading the way.
“I would like to congratulate Anthony Monaghan, Martin Dullaghan and all the staff in Dundalk station who work hard to give customers a positive experience.”
