Dublin sports clubs have missed out on funding in the past – Mitchell

23rd October 2013 - Olivia Mitchell TD

Local Fine Gael TD for Dublin South, Olivia Mitchell has welcomed the opening of the Online Sports Capital Register (www.sportscapitalprogramme.ie) that will be used by sporting organisations to register their interest in the Sports Capital Programme, apply for funding and manage the draw down of the new round of Sports Capital Funding for 2014, announced in last week’s Budget.

” Dublin sports clubs and associations including those in Dublin South have missed out in the past. They don’t seem to be as aware as their rural counterparts of the potential to draw down money from the Sports Capital Programme , and consequently often miss out on accessing funding that benefits members and provides opportunities for more people to get involved in sport, whatever their ability.

“In 2012, nearly €500,000 in funding was allocated to clubs in Dublin South from this programme but this went to only two organisations. I would urge all local sports clubs and associations to log on to this portal to gain information on the Sports Capital Programme and to register their interest.

“This new portal will facilitate local sporting clubs and associations to apply for essential works like new changing rooms, pitches, lighting and other projects when the new Sports Capital Programme is announced later this year”.
