Dublin South can spearhead Action Plan for Jobs

Fine Gael TD for Dublin South Olivia Mitchell today joined the Taoiseach and Minister for Jobs, Richard Bruton, in launching the Action Plan for Jobs at the ICON Clinical Research Facility in South County Business Park.

“I’m delighted to join the Taoiseach and Minister for Jobs in launching the much-anticipated Action Plan for Jobs at the South County Business Park.

“It is telling that the Dublin South region was chosen as a location to launch the Action Plan for Jobs. The ICON Clinical Research Facility is a physical manifestation of the kind of commitment large companies, specializing in highly-skilled jobs, are willing to invest if the competitive environment is right.

“I think the Dublin South area is extremely well placed to spearhead the recovery in jobs and indeed provide a model for other regions in the country. The choice of location for the launch today €”the South County Business Park and Sandyford Business Park €”is serviced by excellent infrastructure, such as the Luas, M50, and respected 3rd level institutions providing training and research.

“The Government’s recent announcement to invest €700,000 to improve the Leopardstown Roundabout and access roads to both business parks displays a commitment to put whatever scarce money we do have in the right places.

“I know that this is not just another government strategy that will gather dust on a shelf. The Action Plan is extremely realistic; it is based on a roadmap of specific and measurable targets, which will be monitored on a quarterly basis. Creating 100,000 jobs over 5 years is ambitious, but setting 3-monthly targets will help ensure that the plan remains focused.

“Improving competitiveness is one of the cornerstones of the Plan and the small advances we have been making in this regard need to continue apace if we are to continue to attract foreign direct investment and encourage indigenous start-ups and expansions.”
