Dublin City Council in line for an additional €850,000+ to help promote sports in local communities
Fine Gael Dublin Central TD and Minister for European Affairs, Paschal Donohoe TD, has today (Thursday) welcomed the announcement of €105,059 in funding which has been allocated to sporting clubs and organisations in the Dublin Central area through the Sports Capital Programme.
Minister Donohoe went onto say that the provision of an additional €866,466 for Dublin City Council will have a further positive impact on community sporting projects and organisations in Dublin Central.
“Ensuring that our local sports halls, football pitches and social clubs are well maintained is key to encouraging social interaction within communities and to promoting healthier lifestyles through sport.
“The organisations in receipt of funds that will benefit the people of Dublin Central are as follows:
· Belvedere Association Football Club Limited €30,000
· Civil Service Cricket Club €20,877
· Royal Canal Park Community Association €742
· Sport Against Racism (Ireland) Ltd €4,400
· St Joseph’s/OCB GAA Club €39,540
· Tae-Kwondo €9,500
· Dublin City Council €866,466.
“Organisations such as these provide an essential outlet for individuals and families of all ages and provide a space for social inclusion and development. I was delighted when this Fine Gael/Labour Government reinstated the Sports Capital Grants upon coming to Office, following the termination of the initiative by the previous Fianna Fáil Government, as this sent a strong message about the importance we place on sport and on social cohesion.
“I would encourage any sporting organisation in Dublin Central that has not been successful this time around not to lose heart and to apply for the next round of funding. And I look forward to seeing the benefits these grants bring to residents right across the Dublin Central constituency.”
