Doyle encourages Wicklow residents to apply for N11 upgrade jobs
22nd May 2013 - Daniel Rowan
Fine Gael TD for Wicklow, Andrew Doyle, has encouraged local residents to apply online for jobs that are available as a result of the N11 upgrade. News of the local recruitment of staff for the project follows on from the deal signed last month by BAM Construction and the Government to get the work underway in the coming weeks.
“Having had discussions with the Minister for Transport, Leo Varadkar TD, in recent days, I am very much looking forward to the work beginning on the upgrade of the N11 in the coming weeks. This is a huge capital investment in county Wicklow that will lead to over 1,000 construction jobs, with further positive spillover effects in the local economy. I urge suitable local jobseekers to apply for work on the project. This week, we’ve seen work begin on setting up the project office for the road upgrade near Jack Whites pub.
“I very much welcome the news that BAM Construction is actively seeking applications for employment on the N11 road project here in county Wicklow. Of the jobs on offer, the construction company is looking for experienced civil foremen, administration, health & safety officers, trades and quantity surveyors to all become part of the team that will build the new road.
“The upgrade project on the N11 Arklow to Rathnew consists of 16.5km of new dual carriageway, along with associated link roads and junctions. It will connect the existing N11 Arklow Bypass with the existing N11 Rathnew/Ashford Bypass creating motorway/dual carriageway from Dublin to Gorey. This project will also include the construction of a service area on the N11-Northbound, just north of Gorey, with direct access from the N11-Southbound via an overpass.
“The deal signed is a Public Private Partnership, the first transport PPP of its kind since 2007. Wicklow needs to be able to safely and efficiently accommodate a large number of commuters, as well as capitalise on the natural advantages we have from a tourism perspective county. Reducing travels times for residents, business and tourists is of prime importance here. This will increase the attractiveness of our county as a place to do business and will play in the minds of key investors.
“The completion of the N11 in county Wicklow has been a top priority for me in the Dáil and I welcome the fact that the upgrade work is to get underway in the coming weeks. The news that the construction company is actively seeking applications for jobs as part of the project is very welcome. In light of this, I am encouraging local residents living in county Wicklow to apply online for jobs with the construction company.”
