Donohoe encourages local suppliers to attend Grangegorman information and networking event

‘Local Labour’ charter provides ample opportunity for construction and other workers in Dublin Central

Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport and local Dublin Central TD, Paschal Donohoe, has today (Tuesday) called on local construction companies and tradespeople to attend an information and networking event designed to connect local suppliers and the consortia that have been shortlisted for the next stage of the development of the DIT Grangegorman campus.

The Meet the Buyer event is taking place on Wednesday 13th August 2014 at CityWest Suites, CityWest Hotel, Saggart, Co. Dublin and is being run by the National Development Finance Agency (NDFA) and Grangegorman Development Agency (GDA) in junction with Enterprise Ireland.

“This event is open to all enterprises associated with a project of this scale and is designed to provide information about the next phase of development – the €200m Central and East Quads. It will allow potential sub suppliers to meet the three consortia – BAM PPP; Eurigena Group and Kajima Infrared that have been shortlisted to progress to the next stage of development and to get the advice and support they need to help them succeed in winning the contracts that are on offer.

“A ‘Local Labour’ charter has been put in place for Grangegorman DIT, which commits contractors to recruiting up to 20% of all new employees through the Area Network Skills Register. This provides massive opportunities for local tradespeople in the area; from painters to block-layers, cleaning contractors, metal workers, scaffolders and sign suppliers.

“This Grangegorman regeneration project has the potential to completely transform Dublin 7 and the surrounding area. It is estimated that it will deliver in the region of 4,500 construction jobs and a further 1,100 when complete. It is a flagship Government project and its reach can be felt far beyond the Dublin 7 area. I was seriously impressed at how far advanced the project is when I visited the site recently. And with the first 1,000 students due on campus this coming September, local residents and businesses will start to feel the first effects of the economic benefits that this development will bring.

“I would encourage any local enterprises in Dublin Central to head to the CityWest Hotel on 13th August where information on business supports through the Local Enterprise Office network and Enterprise Ireland will be available. So too will support and advice in relation Government schemes such as Pathways to Work, JobsPlus and Microfinance.”
