6th April 2018 - Joe McHugh
Donegal TD and Minister for the Irish language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands Joe McHugh has welcomed a €55,000 funding package for the Inishowen Development Partnership for Development Education programmes.
The financial package was secured as part of an allocation of €1.18 million in funding to 30 development education organisations working throughout Ireland by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Mr McHugh said: “This €55,000 funding for the Inishowen Development Partnership will help members of the public to see for themselves the importance of sustainability and improve their awareness of their role as global citizens.”
Mr McHugh, who previously served as Minister of State for the Diaspora and International Development, added: “Through this funding and the education programmes that the Inishowen Development Partnership runs people in Donegal will be able to look at development issues in other parts of the world from their own perspective and link issues in the developing world to Ireland.”
The funding package will enable Inishowen Development Partnership to run education programmes on development issues and help members of the public to understand how and why the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Irish Aid funds projects in parts of the developing world.
Target 4.7 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals calls on states to provide education to ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development.
