Direct flights to Cork from Boston Providence to return next year – Buttimer
20th July 2018 - Senator Jerry Buttimer
The return of the Cork to Boston Providence direct flight next year demonstrates that Cork is the gateway to the South of Ireland for trade and tourism, a Fine Gael Senator has said.
Cork Senator and Leader of Seanad Éireann, Jerry Buttimer said: “The return of the Cork to Boston Providence direct flight shows us how important Cork has become for transatlantic trade and tourism.
“Cork is going to have an even more important role to play in our national story in the years to come. The city is currently thriving, but we can’t rest on our laurels. We need to continue to attract transport links, which will in turn bring tourism and jobs.
“There were 35,248 persons employed in IDA companies in Cork in 2017, and 25,975 total jobs in Enterprise Ireland companies.
“Cork is a great place to live or visit and I think more people are starting to recognise this. It will become even more important to trade and tourism along the western seaboard as the Atlantic Corridor, a high quality road network linking Cork, Limerick, Galway and Sligo is completed over the next decade.
“I want to thank everyone at Cork Airport for their hard work in attracting these vital transport links,” the Fine Gael Senator said.
