Deputy Feighan welcomes €275,000 in energy efficiency funding for Roscommon and Leitrim local authority houses

22nd July 2013 - Emma Hynes

Fine Gael TD for Roscommon/South Leitrim, Frank Feighan, has today (Monday) welcomed the allocation of almost €275,000 in funding to Roscommon and Leitrim County Councils under a €50 million energy efficiency programme aimed at improving local authority homes.

Roscommon County Council has been allocated €146,603, while Leitrim County Council receives funding of €127,629.

“These allocations, announced by the Housing and Planning Minister, Jan O’Sullivan TD, are part of a total funding of €10 million which will be invested this year to improve the energy efficiency of some 5,000 local authority homes across the country. Works to be carried out on housing includes roof insulation, cavity wall insulation, draught proofing and BER certification.

“As Minister O’Sullivan has noted, energy efficiency programmes result in lower energy bills, improved housing stock and reduced carbon emissions. This energy efficiency initiative is expected to create up to 1,000 jobs – in both the private sector and among community-based organisations that deliver energy efficiency measures.

“I warmly welcome this initiative will see the reduction in energy bills of 25,000 families who currently live in local authority houses with very poor insulation.”
