Deputy Feighan welcomes €173,000 in Leader funding for major quad biking leisure project
2nd May 2013 - Sarah Meade
Fine Gael Roscommon/South Leitrim TD, Frank Feighan, has welcomed the approval of €172,793 in LEADER funding for the development of an outdoor recreational and amenity facility for quad biking in Springfield, Carrick on Shannon, Co. Roscommon.
“I welcome the decision by the Minister for the Environment, Phil Hogan TD, to give the go ahead to Roscommon Leader Partnership Company to approve funding of €172,793 to Carrick Quad Adventures Ltd for the development of a quad biking facility at Springfield.
“This funding has been approved under the diversification into non-agricultural activities measure of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.
“As Minister Hogan has noted, this development is a unique tourism and leisure project for the region which will greatly add to the facilities available for visitors to the area, by complementing existing facilities and providing a greater choice of activities. The project is expected to cost a total of €286,775.
I have no doubt that it will be of immense benefit to the region.
“Last week, Minister Hogan released €90m in LEADER funding nationwide and I am glad to see that already the constituency has become a significant beneficiary, with more to follow.
“The project will now go back to the Board of Roscommon Leader Partnership Company for final approval. This is in line with the EU’s ‘bottom-up’ approach to rural development.”
