Deputy Colm Burke and Senator Jerry Buttimer invite public to join online meeting with Minister Simon Harris
13th January 2022 - Fine Gael Press Office
Fine Gael Deputy Colm Burke and Senator Jerry Buttimer are hosting an online public meeting with Minister for Higher Education, Simon Harris, on Wednesday January 19th at 7.30pm to discuss further and higher education.
Cork South Central Senator Jerry Buttimer said, “Minister Harris recently announced very welcome enhancements to the CAO website. Now, when students apply for third-level education online, a full range of options will be available on one platform: higher education, training, and apprenticeships.
“The promotion of further education options and apprenticeships on the CAO website will be a game changer for school-leavers.
“When it comes to looking beyond university, there are lots of opportunities out there, but sometimes it is hard for an individual to get a clear picture of what the best fit might be for them.
“The Minister will be joining myself and Deputy Burke online this Wednesday at 7.30pm to discuss these updates as well as all things higher education. The meeting is open to the public, with all welcome to attend by registering in advance by emailing colm.burke@oir.ie or jerry.buttimer@oir.ie.”
Cork North Central TD Deputy Colm Burke said, “Across Cork over the next few months, students will be considering their next steps in life. I would encourage Leaving Cert students in particular, along with their parents and teachers, to attend this event.
“We have a range of sectors offering interesting careers, with so many different routes available to get there. Minister Harris will be on hand to answer questions directly from students and provide clarity on the current options available to students.
“Please join us to find out all you need to know about further and higher education, and training,” concluded Deputy Burke.
