Delight at National Transport Authority €2.5 Million Funding Allocation for Co. Kildare

8th April 2012 - Senator Anthony Lawlor

Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, Anthony Lawlor, has today (Wednesday 18th April) warmly welcomed the announcement by the National Transport Authority that €2.5 million is to be allocated to County Kildare. This funding is included in the Second Round of the National Transport Authority’s Sustainable Transport Programme and is for public transport related and sustainable travel projects.

“This funding will target 34 specific projects throughout the county which benefit many areas within Kildare North. These projects will increase safety on our roads for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. The funding for these different projects varies in amounts from €5,000 to assess road safety on the R148 Kilcock Road in Maynooth to €250,000 for the development of a public transport hub on the Main Street in Naas, which will become the primary bus focal point in the town. I am particularly delighted to note that many of the projects will increase safety at schools throughout Kildare North such as in Straffan, Celbridge and Naas.

“I am delighted that despite the current pressures on the public purse, that Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar, has allocated this level of funding to Kildare North to increase safety and improve our transport network”.
