Dedicated Taskforce will rejuvenate Cork – Buttimer
18th November 2024 - Senator Jerry Buttimer
The establishment of a dedicated Cork City Taskforce is positive news that will be broadly welcomed, a Fine Gael General Election candidate has said.
Senator Jerry Buttimer, Fine Gael General Election candidate for Cork South Central said:
“I am listening to the people of Cork every day, who are telling me that they have concerns about our city centre. This must change. Cork is our home and I want it to continue to be a place that we can all be proud of.
“I will be supporting the establishment of Cork’s City Taskforce to develop and implement strategies to rejuvenate the city. This taskforce should bring together representatives from Cork City Council, An Garda Síochána, public services, community health, businesses, unions, arts, culture, tourism, and experts in urban design and architecture.
“Collaboration will be key. By bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders, we can create a vision for Cork’s future that prioritises safety, investment, and vibrant community life.
“I’m delighted that Fine Gael has committed to appointing this taskforce within the first 100 days of Government. Key priorities will include:
- Enhancing city centre safety and public spaces.
- Driving major infrastructure projects, including the Limerick to Cork motorway and improved public transport.
- Investing in healthcare with a new surgical hub and elective hospital.
- Supporting the growth of Cork Airport.
“We all know that Cork has incredible potential,” Senator Buttimer concluded. “With the right leadership and investment, we can make Cork a stronger, and more vibrant city for everyone.”
