Decathlon to bring more investment and capacity to create 100 jobs in Ballymun– Rock

A French sportswear chain has reached agreement with Dublin City Council to buy a large site in Ballymun which has the potential generate up to 100 jobs, a Fine Gael TD has said.
The northside Dublin city site – alongside Ikea – will be sold for €4.5 million to Decathlon.
Local TD, Noel Rock said: “This is yet another vote of confidence in the local economy, in local jobs and in the future of Ballymun”.
“Decathlon could provide up to 100 jobs, and I have contacted them to ensure that the idea of employing locally is on their agenda from the outset. I would also expect Dublin City Council to set this as a criteria for the development.
“While this type of large retail shop isn’t necessarily suited to Ballymun Shopping Centre, the €4.5m recouped from this sale absolutely must be ring fenced for the Ballymun area, for the development of local infrastructure and for vital local amenities which councillors all too often say we don’t have the funding for.
“This €4.5m, brought about on the back of a booming economy, would allow for that: we must hold our councillors to account, ensure this finance is spent locally and ensure we aren’t let down again,” Deputy Rock said.
“On the whole, with €4.5m in local investment potentially ahead, as well as the potential to create up to 100 jobs, this is a very positive development,” Deputy Rock said.
