Fine Gael’s Executive Council has this evening agreed to add Councillor Vicki Casserly to the party ticket in the Dublin Mid-West constituency for the next General Election.
Cllr Casserly, who is Mayor of South Dublin County Council, joins Councillor Emer Higgins on the party ticket.
“It is a great honour to be asked by my party to contest the next General Election and I’m looking forward to what lies ahead.
“I will be working extremely hard with my party colleague, Cllr Higgins, to get the best possible result for Fine Gael at the next election – whenever that may come,” Cllr Casserly said.
Cllr Casserly – a mother of two young boys, one whom she is a full-time carer for – was elected as Mayor of South Dublin County Council in June 2019 and is the only female Mayor in Dublin.
“Community is power and I believe in achieving results through active engagement with residents and using this skill to influence local and national policy development. My experience with local schools, community groups and sports groups will help provide a positive environment for everyone to live in,” she said.
She also played a key role in the Repeal the 8th Campaign in 2018.
“I’m looking forward to meeting all in the constituency over the near future in my capacity as a public representative and Fine Gael candidate for the next General Election,” Cllr Casserly said.
